Samayou (さまよう) in Japanese means “to wander” or “to roam” – it implies a sense of aimlessly moving around without a clear destination.

The idea of “wandering” or “roaming” fits the feeling of skateboarding itself; an activity that’s all about freedom, exploration, and movement without a fixed destination. The name captures that spirit of adventure, where you’re just cruising, seeing where the board takes you, and enjoying the journey.

Initial Concept

The main theme for the Samayou skateboard deck artwork centered around the idea of “Wandering through Nature and Spirit”, inspired by both the physical and philosophical aspects of wandering in Japanese culture. Developed with 3 initial concepts, inspired by Japanese Symbols, Studio Ghibli and Sea Waves/Sea Patterns)
